FindSherlock
Privacy Policy
Last updated August 6, 2026
Introduction
This Privacy Notice for FindSherlock ("FindSherlock", "we", "us", "our") describes how and why we collect, use, and share information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Services").
We do not process sensitive personal information, and we do not maintain a stored database of the photos you submit for a search -- see "Photo searches" below for exactly how a submitted photo is handled.
What information we collect
Information you provide directly: your e-mail address (used to send you a one-time sign-in code and account notices), and, if you subscribe to FindSherlock Pro or purchase coins, payment information -- which is collected and processed entirely by our payment provider; we never see or store your card details.
Information collected automatically: basic device and app-usage data (such as device type, operating system, and app version), and standard connection metadata (such as IP address) generated when your device communicates with our servers, used for security, abuse-prevention, and reliability purposes.
Photo searches
When you submit a photo to search, we use it only to perform that search -- comparing it against publicly available sources to find visually similar images -- and it is not retained by us beyond the time reasonably necessary to complete the search and show you the result.
We do not use the photos you submit to train models, for advertising, or for any purpose beyond fulfilling the search you requested, and we do not build a persistent record linking a submitted photo to your identity.
How we use your information
We use the information above to: operate and maintain your account (including your coin balance and subscription status); send you sign-in codes and important account notices; detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; understand aggregate usage trends so we can improve the Services; and comply with our legal obligations.
Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your information based on: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Services; performance of our contract with you (these Terms); and compliance with our legal obligations.
When and with whom we share information
We share information with: our cloud-hosting and database provider, which stores account and session data on our behalf; our transactional e-mail provider, which delivers sign-in codes; and our payment processor, if and when you make a purchase. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the successor to honor the commitments made in this Privacy Notice.
International data transfers
Our infrastructure runs on a global cloud-hosting network. If you access the Services from outside the region where our servers process your request, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in other countries, which may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for such transfers.
Data retention
We keep account information (such as your e-mail address, coin balance, and subscription status) for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward in case you wish to return, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we are required to delete it by law. As described above, photos submitted for a search are not retained beyond the time needed to complete that search.
Children's privacy
The Services are not directed at children under 13, and submitting a photo for a search requires you to be at least 18 (see our Terms of Service). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: request access to the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information; restrict or object to certain processing; and receive a copy of your information in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@findsherlock.co.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland and believe we have not adequately addressed your concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Do-Not-Track signals
No uniform standard for recognizing and honoring browser "Do Not Track" signals has been finalized. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, but we will revisit this position if an industry standard is adopted.
US state privacy rights
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have additional rights under that law, including the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information (we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by applicable law). To exercise these rights, contact us at support@findsherlock.co; we will respond within the time required by the applicable law and may need to verify your identity first.
Third-party links
A search result may point you to a third-party website. Once you leave the Services, this Privacy Notice no longer applies -- that third party's own privacy policy governs any information you provide there, and we encourage you to review it.
Updates to this notice
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised "Last updated" date, and the updated version becomes effective as soon as it is posted.
