Hinge catfish? Let’s check.

Do the photos match the story? Pick the clearest of their Hinge photos and we’ll look for that face on public pages under another name.

1The doubt

Sound familiar?

  • Headshots fit for a company website

Crisp light, clean background, not one candid shot. Great for a CV, a little odd for a dating profile.

  • Answers that could be anyone’s

The prompts sound lovely and say nothing, as if they were written for every match at once.

“I’m a simple person who loves travel, good food and deep talks.”

  • Plans that never quite happen

Friday moves to Sunday, Sunday to “next week”. The photos stay perfect; the person never shows.

2The check

A bit of homework before the date.

We compare that face with public profiles on 20 platforms and list the closest first.

  1. Your photo

Use a photo from their profile or one they sent you, cropped to a single clear face.

  2. Our legwork

Hinge isn’t one of our sources, so we look for that face on 20 public platforms outside it.

  3. Your call

Each possible match links to its public page with a similarity score. You compare; we never contact anyone.

3What turns up

Too polished to be true?

Borrowed photos often come from models’ and creators’ public pages, and those are the kind of pages we check.

  • Shots lifted from a model’s or creator’s public page
  • The same face under a different name and story
  • A link to each public page where that face appears
A similar face is a reason to look closer, not proof. And an empty list clears no one.

Sample: LinkedIn, @marketing.demo, 93% face match

  1. 1Opens on LinkedIn
  2. 2Similarity score, closest first
  3. 3Another name, same face

Found something?

  1. Put the pages side by side
  2. Ask for a quick video call
  3. Keep the chat in the app for now
  4. Report the profile if it doesn’t add up

4Before you meet

Red flags worth a second look.

  • Every photo looks like it’s from the same shoot
  • Video calls that keep falling through
  • Big feelings within the first few days
  • Any request for money, whatever the story

First-date rules

Pick a busy place, make your own way there, tell a friend; if the video call keeps falling through, that’s your answer.

Date prep, not an investigation.

Check an adult who agreed, with a photo they showed you, and never go after them or whoever’s photos were used.

What you may search

Your own face, an adult who clearly consented, or someone you are legally authorised to investigate.

Prohibited uses

No minors or images you have no right to use, and never to stalk, harass, profile, or decide on jobs or housing.

Every search is logged. Accounts that break these rules are closed without refunds.

Questions, answered.

Can you search Hinge for a profile?

No. Hinge isn’t one of our sources, and we never see profiles, prompts or chats inside the app. We search public pages on 20 platforms for the face in the photo you upload.

Which of their Hinge photos should I use?

The one where the face is clearest, looking at the camera, with no one else in the shot. Crop out friends and skip photos with sunglasses or heavy filters.

How do I know if my Hinge match is a catfish?

Every photo looks like a professional shoot, the prompt answers could belong to anyone, the stories don’t quite add up and there’s always a reason to skip the video call. If their face also turns up elsewhere under another name, take it seriously.

What does a high similarity score mean?

That the faces look alike, not that they’re the same person. Open the link, compare the photos yourself and ask your match about it before you decide anything.

What if I think the profile is fake?

Unmatch and report it in Hinge so they can review it, and keep your number, address and money to yourself.

How much does a search cost?

One coin is one search. Coin packs start at $1.99, and coins never expire. Searching often? Pro unlocks every result for $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month or $19.99 a year, billed in US dollars.
